NCPC BOSS APPLAUDS GOVERNOR JANG OF PLATEAU STATE

The Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Mr. John Kennedy Opara

The Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Mr. John Kennedy Opara has commended the Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Governor Jonah David Jang for his earnest commitment and contributions to the course of pilgrimage in Nigeria. He made this commendation when Mr. Opara led a delegation of the Commission on a sensitization visit to the Governor recently in Jos the State Capital.

He thanked the Governor for the role he played during the Presidential Pilgrimage last year and also during the Easter pilgrimage earlier in the year, in his words, “indeed you have encouraged and supported Christian pilgrimage in Nigeria” and he prayed that God will continually strengthen him to do more works for his Kingdom.

The NCPC boss commended Governor Jang for transforming the State in the area of Health Care, construction of roads and the provision of good water system adding that he was leaving a long time legacy for the state.

Mr. Opara said the purpose of the visit was to inform the Governor of the readiness of NCPC for this year’s Pilgrimage Activities and to present the package fee as approved by Mr. President to the Governor.

He informed the Governor that Mr. President Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has reduced the cost of this year’s pilgrimage by 9% compared to last year and he has also approved a concessionary exchange rate of $1 dollar to N150 naira for the 2014 pilgrimage exercise.

Mr. Opara affirmed that the Commission was using pilgrimage as a tool for moral and spiritual transformation, he maintained that if people were transformed, they would help the government to move forward.

He urged the Governor to help sponsor Christians who are spiritually rich but materially poor to the Holy Land according to him “this should be a way to encourage Christians who are dedicated and committed to the work of God”.

He intimated the Governor that he has allocated 1500 seats for Plateau State for this year’s pilgrimage exercise.

In his response, Governor Jang commended Mr. Opara for how much he has added “colour” to Christian Pilgrimage in Nigeria since the inception of his tenure, his words, “the NCPC has grown from strength to strength since you came on board”.  He added that Christian pilgrimage is a unifying factor and a link for all Christians in Nigeria because according to him, “we do not travel on pilgrimage as different denomination but we travel as one body of Christ”.

He poised that pilgrimage to Jerusalem has a lot of significance and positive impact on Christians and to this end, he encouraged other Governors to sponsor Christians to the Holy Land “this would go a long way to encourage their faith and help them to grow spiritually”.

He encouraged Christians to fervently pray for the peace of Nigeria, “it is time to go on our knees and ask God to fight our battles”, he added “I know that he will not abandon us”.

The NCPC boss and his team also met with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Plateau State Chapter.
