BENUE STATE GOV PROMISES TO SUPPORT THE SUCCESS OF 2015 PILGRIMAGE EXERCISE

The Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Samuel Ortom has promised to support the 2015 pilgrimage exercise.

The Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Samuel Ortom has promised to support the 2015 pilgrimage exercise. He disclosed this at the Benue State Government House while playing host to the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Mr. John Kennedy Opara and his team who were in the state for a sensitization visit to the Governor. According to the Governor, “pilgrimage is a faith enriching exercise and the state government will do everything possible to make 2015 pilgrimage exercise a success”.

He affirmed that pilgrimage is a tool that builds the faith of Christians in God and as such every Christian should aspire to visit the Holy Land. In his words: the visit to the holy sites we read in the bible elevates our faith”. He added, “Indeed my visit to Israel blessed my life and gave me a lot of testimonies”.

The Governor commended the Executive Secretary for the giant strides and innovations he has brought to bear since he assumed office. In his words, “we know what pilgrimage use to be in Nigeria and we can now see how you have taken NCPC to the World map”.  He prayed that God will give Mr. Opara enablement to continually be a blessing to Nigeria, especially the Christian community.

Earlier, the NCPC boss commended the Governor for bringing investors to empower the economy of the state and to bring Benue state to a face lead, “it is God who has brought you to office and he will provide everything you need to run this office”, he stated.   

Mr. Opara also disclosed that the Commission runs four pilgrimage programmes in a year: Easter Pilgrimage which holds March to April, Youth Pilgrimage,( July), Family Prilgrimage, August and the general Pilgrimage which is usually held between October to December.He added that the Commission has added skill acquisition scheme to its pilgrimage programmes to empower Nigerian Christians and to help the government build a solid economy.

 He disclosed that the Commission would flag off the first edition of the youth pilgrimage on 25th July, 2015 and the cost is N367, 000.00. He further added the cost of the October/December pilgrimage is N370, 000.00

 

The NCPC helmsman urged the Governor to encourage people who are financially buoyant to sponsor Christians who are spiritually rich but materially poor to the Holy Land “this is the only way we can encourage Christian who are faithful”.

 

The NO 1 Pilgrim Officer of the Federation informed his host that the Commission is introducing Christian pilgrimage Lottery scheme to afford many Christians the opportunity to go on Holy Pilgrimage by paying for tickets and the lucky winners would be sponsored to Israel by the Commission.  He further explained that the Lottery Scheme would help the Commission to drive self sustenance and encourage greater participation in pilgrimage exercise.
