The Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Mr. John Kennedy Opara has been honoured with an award of Grand Patron by the Women Wing of CAN (WOWICAN) recently in Owerri, Imo State.
Speaking at the presentation of the award and investiture, the Minister of State for Education, Prof Viola Owuliri enjoined women to remain fervent in the Lord. In her words, “women represents love and as such, they are always able to stand during the challenges of life”, citing Ruth, Esther and Naomi as examples of women in the Bible that are worthy of emulation.
She commended President, Goodluck Jonathan for his transformation agenda which has never left women out, she added that the Jonathan administration has given women the opportunity to occupy strategic positions “kudos to the Jonathan administration”. She prayed that God will intervene in the case of insurgency in Nigeria.
The former Governor of Imo State Ikedi Ohakim commended the NCPC boss for his efforts and contribution toward WOWICAN and the Christian community at large. He enjoined women to train their children uprightly and to live a life worthy of emulation so they can be role model to their children.
While presenting the award, the Chairman CAN South-East zone, Bishop David Eberechukwu, stated that the award is meant to honour the Executive Secretary of NCPC for his endless effort towards the development of CAN.
In his responds, The Executive Secretary thanked the Chairman and members of WOWICAN for the award. He urged them to continually pray for the Peace of Nigeria, in his words, “If we pray together, we will always stick together as only prayer can move the nation forward”.
Mr. Opara Intimated WOWICAN, that NCPC will be introducing Youth Pilgrimage, to afford the Youth of Nigeria the opportunity to have divine encounter with God. According to him, "if the foundation is not right, what can the righteous do?”
He stressed that it is the belief of the Commission that as many people that would have the opportunity to go on pilgrimage will have a spiritual rebirth and in turn come back to affect the people around them and the society positively.
The NCPC boss pledged to always support WOWICAN, He prayed for the association to remain vibrant and be able to take Nigeria to the next level.
The Mbaise Youth Development Union (MYDU) also conferred on him “ICON OF PROGRESS" for his support to them.
