PILGRIMAGE WILL TEACH NIGERIANS TO BE PATROTIC – GOV. TAMBUWAL

The Executive Governor of Sokoto State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal has charged both Christians and Islamic Clergies to use Pilgrimage as a platform to teach Nigerians how to become patriotic citizens. He made this charge in Sokoto while playing host to the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Mr. John Kennedy Opara, and his Federal Commissioners who were in the state on a sensitization visit.

The Governor stressed the need for leaders and clergies to continually sensitize people on moral ethics and etiquettes especially from the religious point of view, According to him, “this will help to imbibe the culture of being sincere and patriotic citizens”. He added, “We should always do what is right because this will make our country move forward.”

Governor Tambuwal commended the NCPC boss for the visionary leadership style he has brought to bear in the Commission. In his words “you have been up and doing, you have brought a lot of innovations to NCPC”.  He urged Christian Pilgrims to be good Ambassadors of Nigeria and always exhibit utmost good behaviors and mannerisms both within and outside the shores of Nigeria, in order to portray the country in good light to outsiders.

The No 1 Citizen of Sokoto State further commended his guests for coming to sensitize Sokoto citizens on the programmes of the Commission of which they could be beneficiaries of. He assured his support for pilgrimage and promised to ensure that Christians in the State benefit from the pilgrimage programmes of the Commission.

He affirmed that God has restored peace to the country through President Buhari’s administration and urged Nigerians to support the present administration to ensure that the country enjoys constant peace. According to him, “peace is a necessary requirement for development, without peace we can never be developed.”

Earlier, the NCPC boss commended the Governor for his developmental strides in Sokoto State. He described him as an exemplary leader and a role model to many, especially the youths. He added that Governor Tambuwal is a man of honour and integrity. In his words, “with people like you Nigeria would be a better place”.

He informed the Governor on his mission to Sokoto State which was to sensitize him and all the Christians about the benefits of embarking on Holy pilgrimage. He further informed that the Commission was using pilgrimage as a tool for moral transformation and spiritual rebirth.

Mr. Opara reinstated that the Commission runs four pilgrimages in one calendar year: Easter pilgrimage, Youth pilgrimage, Family pilgrimage and the main pilgrimage which takes place between October/December.

He stressed the need for government to partner with the commission in the area of Skills Acquisition which the Commission has embedded in all their pilgrimage programmes.

The NCPC Scribe stated that the Commission is working with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to encourage Christians who are financially buoyant to sponsor Christians who are spiritually rich, but materially poor on Holy pilgrimage.

He disclosed that the Commission is currently partnering with the National Lottery Regulatory Commission to Introduce Christian Pilgrimage Lottery Scheme. He further explained that the essence of the lottery scheme is to enable many Christians participate from the spiritual exercise without no cost to the state and federal government.
