 Amman, Jordan - September 28, 2025

The Nigerian Christian Pilgrims in Jordan, comprising Adamawa, Imo, and Consulars, held an interdenominational service at Mount Nebo, Jordan, to commemorate the 65th independence anniversary of Nigeria.

Over 340 pilgrims converged at the top of the mountain, where Moses led the people of Israelites out of Egypt but was not able to make it to the promised land. The prayer session, organized by the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC) in conjunction with the ground handler in Jordan, was led by His Grace, The Most Rev Markus Ibrahim, the Archbishop of the Province of Jos and the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Yola.

The pilgrims offered prayers for God's grace and strength for President Bola Tinubu, for the sustenance of Nigeria as the country celebrates her 65th independence anniversary on October 1. Prayers were also offered for the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, all national leaders in Nigeria, as well as the NCPC leadership.

Additionally, the pilgrims offered prayers for the peace of Nigeria and for state governments, particularly those who are pilgrimage-friendly.

Earlier, as part of their pilgrimage exercise in Jordan, the pilgrims visited the Mount of Macherius, where King Herod imprisoned and beheaded John the Baptist.

This third batch of pilgrims will depart Jordan on September 29 for Israel to continue their 10-day pilgrimage journey before returning to Nigeria.
