The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Mr. John Kennedy Opara has

The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Mr. John Kennedy Opara has reaffirmed the need for the Commission to partner with the National Orientation Agency (NOA). He disclosed this recently in Abuja while playing host to the Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and his Management team.

Mr. Opara stressed that the Commission needs to partner with National Orientation Agency to give orientation to our Pilgrims who travel to the Holy Land on our core values and norms. In his words, “our Pilgrims are the Ambassadors of Nigeria and orientating them will go a long way to change their mentality and behaviour, these would tell the outside who we are”.

He intimated the Director General NOA and his team that the theme for this year’s pilgrimage is “pilgrimage as a tool for moral and spiritual transformation”. He added that it is the desire of the Commission that people who will travel on pilgrimage will come back morally and spiritually transformed and in turn affect those around them, this will in no time make Nigeria a better place.

The NCPC boss buttressed the need for organizations and private individuals who are financially buoyant to sponsor Christians who are spiritually rich but materially poor, according to him, “this will go a long way to boost self sponsorship of pilgrimage in Nigeria”.

He urged his Guest, who is also the Spokesman of the Anti-Terrorism Campaign   not to give up on the war against terrorism in Nigeria, according to him, “the challenges we face are real, but with God we will overcome”. He encouraged them to keep doing the right thing and continuously pray for peace in Nigeria.

Earlier, the Director General of NOA, Mr. Mike Omeri extolled the giant strides of Mr. Opara stressing that his advocacy for self sponsorship and his improvement in the conduct of pilgrimage activities had given Christian Pilgrimage a better look in Nigeria. He also commended the Executive Secretary for being able to reduce the rate of abscondment to a minimal level.

He informed the ES that his Agency in Collaboration with the NCPC is looking forward to sensitizing Christians who travel on pilgrimage on the values and norms of our country. In his words: “this will  show that our country Nigeria have something to give to the outside world”.

The team of NOA later inspected facilities at the NCPC Pilgrims’ Reception Centre.
