The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Mr. John Kennedy Opara has commended the Chief Executive Officer of A-Z Petroleum Products, Chief Dr. Alenxander Chika Okafor for sponsoring Christians on Holy pilgrimage to Israel during the 2014 pilgrimage exercise. He made this commendation recently during a thank you meeting with Dr. Okafor in Abuja.

The Executive Secretary who was represented by the Assistant Director Sensitization and Enlightenment Department NCPC, Mr. Christian Udegbunam commended Chief Dr. Okafor for his kind personality and generosity towards the things of God. According to him, “your philanthropist gesture has touched the lives of many Nigerians”. He prayed that God will continually bless him so that he can extend the blessings to others.

The NCPC Boss informed his host that the Commission will be flagging off its Easter Pilgrimage on 1st March, 2015. He explained that this would afford states that were not able to travel during last year Oct/Dec pilgrimage exercise the opportunity to travel; he added that the Easter pilgrimage is mainly for self sponsored pilgrims.

He further informed that the Commission is planning to introduce a 3 day Leadership training programme in this year’s Easter pilgrimage exercise. He explained that this would present Nigerians the opportunity to learn and acquire skills in different fields such as Agriculture, technology, etc, this would enable them add values to their lives and they would in turn come back home and apply the skills they have learnt in Israel.

The NCPC helmsman reaffirmed that the Commission is using pilgrimage as a tool for moral and spiritual transformation. He said that pilgrimage is for those who are spiritually rich, but materially poor. He encouraged him not to relent in sponsoring more pilgrims to the Holy Land and appealed to him to encourage his friends, colleagues and business partners who are buoyant to sponsor Christians on pilgrimage. According to him, “this is the only way we can encourage Christians who are faithful”.

In his response, the CEO of A-Z Petroleum Products, Chief Dr. Alenxander Okafor thanked the NCPC boss for his visit. In his words: “I am very happy that you acknowledged what I have done”. He promised that he would continue to support the cause of pilgrimage in Nigeria.

He explained that what motivates him to sponsor Christians on pilgrimage is the fact that they were able to see that the Bible is a reality and this goes a long way to strengthen their faith.

Dr. Okafor encouraged Christians who are materially rich to sponsor Christians who cannot afford to pay for themselves, on because according to him, “no matter the level of wealth one acquires in life, if you cannot touch lives, then you have not achieved anything in life”.

The meeting was witnessed by the Chief Executive of Home Africa Humanitarian Foundation, Rev Austin Epunam.
