The Chairman of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Most Rev. Nicholas D. Okoh has urged the Commission to stand independently and not to depend on Government sponsorship. He disclosed this recently at the NCPC Corporate Headquarters when he paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary of NCPC, Rev. Tor Uja.
The Chairman informed that he has come to welcome and congratulate the Executive Secretary and to thank God for his well deserved appointment. He informed the Executive Secretary that the Commission over the years has built systems which has made the Commission what it is today. According to him, “NCPC is a Church Institution and it will be our joy to see it grow”.
He promised to extend his hand of fellowship to the Executive Secretary and continually support the Commission in every way humanly possible to ensure that the Commission succeeds.
Most Rev. Okoh advised the NCPC boss to create relationship with all the necessary Stakeholders in the pilgrimage sub sector especially with church leaders and state government. In his words: “create rapport with Church Leaders, Government authorities both in Nigeria and the State of Israel.” He added, “you need their support and counsel”.
He thanked the Staff of the Commission for the support they had given to the Former Executive Secretary and urged them to accept change and to give Rev. Tor Uja all the necessary support and cooperation he would need to move the Commission forward.
In his response, the Executive Secretary of NCPC, Rev. Tor Uja thanked the Chairman for his visit and his words of wisdom and his elderly advice. According to him, “you have spoken as an elder who have acquired so much experience over the years”. He urged the Chairman and his predecessor to put down all their experiences of building the Commission so that others can learn from them.
Rev. Uja informed that he had plans to develop the personnel of the Commission through training and reward for service. He added that the Commission would use pilgrimage to bring the church of God in Nigeria to work together in oneness and unity.
He stressed that the President has set a frame work of uprightness, discipline, commitment to work and a corruption free environment. He called on Nigerians to work with this frame work in order to move the country forward.
The NCPC boss urged Christian Leaders to expose their members on Holy Pilgrimage to Israel and some of the Holy Sites of faith around the world. He promised that the Commission would work and partner with church leaders and to use pilgrimage to sell Nigeria in a positive light to the outside world.
