ISRAELI FOREIGN MINISTRY PROMISES TO SUPPORT 2014 CHRISTIAN PILGRIMAGE

The Israeli Deputy Director of General Ministry of foreign Affairs, Mrs. Ahova Zaken has said that the Foreign Ministry in Israel will give Nigerian Government and the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission the necessary support and corporation for a hitch free pilgrimage exercise this year. She disclosed this when the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Mr  John Kennedy Opara, Board Members of NCPC and the Executive Members of the Conference of States (CPWBs) paid a working visit to the Israeli General Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Israel, during the 2014 State of Readiness Visit.

Mrs. Zaken commended the leadership of the Commission for organising and coordinating pilgrimage activities to the envy of everyone.  She added that the Commission has done well in the last four years and promised that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Interior will give their full support and corporation to make this year’s pilgrimage hitch free.

In his response, the Executive Secretary of NCPC, Mr John Kennedy Opara thanked his host for her warm reception. He used the opportunity presented by the visit to sympathize with the State of Israel on the death of Israeli citizens who died during the recent crisis between Israel and Gaza. He prayed that God will help them overcome their challenges and in no time restore peace back to the State of Israel.

Mr. Opara informed his host that the Commission and the Conference of State (CPWB) have come to Israel to ascertain the State of readiness of Ground handlers and also to sign the Ground Handlers Agreement for the 2014 Pilgrimage Exercise. He said the Commission and the Conference of State has embarked of this journey to ensure a successful pilgrimage exercise this year.

Mr Opara intimated that over the years the Commission has innovated three pilgrimage packages: The Easter Pilgrimage which runs from the month March – April, the Family Pilgrimage, from August – September and the main pilgrimage is usually from October – December. He explained that the family pilgrimage was introduced to afford families the opportunity to come to the Holy Land and pray together.

The NCPC boss buttress that pilgrimage is a spiritual journey and not a jamboree, he explained that it affords Christians the opportunity to come and appreciate the things Jesus did while on earth and also to have divine encounter with God, according to him, “it is our believe that when Christians who go to the Holy Land have divine encounter with God, they will come back morally and spiritually transformed and in turn affect lives positively and move the country forward”.

He thanked the Israeli Foreign Affairs Ministry for reducing the number of days for Visa procurement from 10 days –5 days, he appealed that the 5 days visa procurement procedure should also extended to the Easter pilgrimage and Family Pilgrimage to enable the Commission procure visas easily for Pilgrims.

The NCPC helmsman poised that the Commission has been able to reduce abscondment to 0.01% and assured the Israeli Foreign Ministry that the Commission will continually do everything possible to ensure that the Pilgrims are properly screened before their names are forwarded for visa procurement.

He informed them that the Commission will be organising a Day Out With Jesus in Israel and all our senior government official will be invited, he appealed to the Foreign Ministry to give the Commission all the necessary support and to make the programme a success.
