The Executive Governor of Bayelsa State Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson has promised to support Christian Pilgrimage

The Executive Governor of Bayelsa State Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson has promised to support Christian Pilgrimage Lottery Scheme. He made the disclosure in Yenogua while playing host to the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Mr. John Kennedy Opara and his Federal Commissioners who were in the state on a sensitization visit for the 2015 Christian pilgrimage. He assured the NCPC boss that he would be one of the Governors to kick start the Christian pilgrimage lottery scheme as soon as the programme is launched.

Governor Diskson described the Scheme as innovative and laudable, adding that it is very important to have it implemented considering the present economic situation of the country.

He equally commended the skill acquisition programme of the Commission and called on his special Adviser on Religious Affairs to work with NCPC on how to partner with the Commission in the Christian pilgrimage lottery scheme. He assured that the programme would be beneficial to the youth of the state so that they could acquire knowledge and skill during pilgrimage.

He called for greater support and collaboration from stakeholders on issues of pilgrimage which he described as “very special”, because according to him, “pilgrimage should not be the responsibility of government alone”.

In the words of the Governor: “This year, Bayelsians will be supported and sponsored to the Holy land”.

Governor Dickson commended the NCPC boss for working hard to reposition the Commission. His words: “I commend your selfless dedication to duty”.

Earlier, the NCPC helmsman commended the Governor for his developmental strides in the state. He informed the Governor that he was in the state on sensitization visit for the 2015 Christian Pilgrimage.

He affirmed that the Commission is using pilgrimage as a tool for moral and spiritual rebirth. He stated that those who performed Holy pilgrimage would experience divine encounter which would change their life style.

He explained that in order to make pilgrimage more memorable and lasting in the minds of pilgrims, the commission introduced skill acquisition programme for pilgrims where they would acquire skill and knowledge while on Holy pilgrimage which would make them self employed after the pilgrimage exercise.

Mr. Opara intimated his host that the Commission now runs four pilgrimage programme in one year. He explained that the maiden youth pilgrimage programme which would be launched on 25th July, 2015 is tagged: “Operation catch them young”, adding that when the foundation is not right, what can the righteous do”.

According to the NCPC boss, we are targeting spiritual rebirth and moral values in our pilgrimage programmes.

He further affirmed that because of the self sustenance drive of the Commission, NCPC is partnering with the National lottery Regulatory Commission to promote Christian pilgrimage lottery scheme. He added that the Commission had already signed an MOU with the NLRC to get the programme running. According to the No 1 Pilgrim Officer of the federation, “I appeal to the government to help us in the advocacy process strategy to reach more people”.

He stressed that Pilgrimage should be for those Christians who are spiritually rich, but materially poor.

He told the Governor that the Commission had established a Mini Clinic in Israel to carter for urgent medical needs of Pilgrims to reduce the cost of medical expenses of both federal and state governments.

Mr. Opara urged the Governor to be part of this years special prayer session in Israel tagged, “A day with Jesus for Nigerians in Israel” on 25th October, 2015.
