The Leader of the Federal Capital Territory delegation for the 2014 Christian Pilgrimage Exercise, Senator Philip Aduda has said that FCT intending Pilgrims are set to embark on a spiritual journey for the 2014 pilgrimage exercise. He made this assertion when the FCT delegation for the 2014 Christian pilgrimage exercise paid a courtesy visit to the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Mr. John Kennedy Opara at the NCPC Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.
Senator Aduda explained that the essence of their visit was to intimate the Executive Secretary on the state of readiness of the FCT Christian Pilgrim Welfare Board for the 2014 Christian Pilgrimage Exercise. He told his host that the FCT in collaboration with NCPC has thoroughly screened over 1000 intending pilgrims who have been ascertained medically fit to embark on this year’s pilgrimage by professional Doctors, Nurses and Public Health Practitioners.
He informed Mr. Opara that orientation for FCT intending pilgrims for this year’s pilgrimage has been slated for Friday 17th October, 2014. He explained that the essence for the orientation is to ensure that the intending pilgrims are fully educated on the major health, security and spiritual issues which would prepare them for the pilgrimage exercise.
The leader of the delegation commended the NCPC Boss for his leadership style and for the innovations he has brought to bear in the Commission. In his words: “your wonderful works is taking pilgrimage in Nigeria to a next and high level”. He added “indeed, your hard work and innovation has earned you your national honours award”. He prayed that God will continually grant Mr. Opara the wisdom and the strength to carry on his national assignment.
In his response, the Executive Secretary of NCPC, Mr. John Kennedy Opara thanked the members of the delegation for their visit. He commended the delegation for how they have brought sanity to the Board under the leadership of Senator Aduda, in his words, “your leadership has brought visible change to the Board”.
Mr. Opara posited that the priority of the Commission is the security and the welfare of our pilgrims “these we will not compromise”. He explained to his guest that the commission would abide by every rule. According to him, “we will not allow anyone to jeopardize our standards”. He added that the Commission is set to resist and sanction those who would want to sabotage the efforts of the Commission.
He encouraged the members of the delegation and the FCT Welfare Board to be upright and continually show good example to others, according to him, “FCT welfare Board should be a place where others should look up to.” He congratulated the newly elected Conference of States Chairman, Rev. Israel Akanji, who is also the Chairman of the FCT Pilgrim Welfare Board.
The courtesy visit was witnessed by the Head of Administration, NCPC, Rev. Amos Yohanna, Asisstant Director Office of the Executive Secretary, Dr. Ifeoma Unachukwu, Head of Operations, Mr. Henry Ezike and Mr. Abu Opkanachi, Assistant Director Budget, NCPC.
