The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrimage Commission (NCPC), John Kennedy Opara, has said that the ‘Win a Trip to Israel’ (WATTI) pomo would enable many Christians, especially those who are spiritually rich and materially poor, to embark on Holy pilgrimage. He disclosed this recently in Enugu during the formal launching of the ‘Win a Trip to Israel’ promo.
Mr Opara explained that the financially challenged Christians were assisted to go on pilgrimage in order to boost their spiritual health.
He commended Enugu State government for their support over the years and promised that the Commission would ensure the sustainability of the programme.
Mr Opara explained that in a raffle draw such as this, not everyone would win. His words, “Its not everybody that will win, and those who do not win should not feel bad”.
In his remarks, the Director General of the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC), Mr. Adolphus Ekpe said that the ‘Win a Trip to Israel’ promo was an innovation of the NLRC and NCPC through a Memorandum of Understanding by the two Commissions.
He said that the idea was to ensure continuous sustainability of Christian Pilgrimage and further provide opportunity for the financially challenged Christians to stand a chance of embarking on Holy pilgrimage at a minimal cost.
Mr. Ekpe said that the programme would create employment opportunity for the operators as well as generate revenue to government and other stakeholders.
The Director General, National Lottery Regulatory Commission, further said that his Commission would ensure that ‘Win a Trip to Israel’ is run in a transparent manner and operate with spiritual integrity, adding that the operators would be held accountable at all time.
Also speaking, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state said that the programme would help government lessen the burden of sponsoring Christians on pilgrimage to Israel every year.
He commended the organizers for their prayers of lifting Enugu state to God’s hands and urged them to always remember the state in prayers.
The governor paid for 9, 100 tickets; 35 each will emerge from the 260 wards of the state. He urged the organizers to ensure that only indigent Christians are selected.
The event also witnessed a special prayer for Enugu state and its leadership.
