CHRISTIANS AND MUSLIMS WILL PERFORM THEIR SPIRITUAL OBLIGATION – GOVERNOR LALONG

The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency, Mr. Simon Lalong has said that the Plateau State government would ensure that both Christians and Muslims perform their spiritual obligations to Israel and Hajj in 2015 despite the financial challenges in the state. He disclosed this when the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, Mr. John Kennedy Opara and his management team paid a sensitization visit to the state.

Governor Lalong commended the NCPC boss for his visionary leadership style and all the innovation he has brought to bear in the Commission.  He further commended NCPC for extending the scope of pilgrimage to Rome and Greece, according to him, “you have made pilgrimage in Nigeria more meaningful especially in the aspect of its spiritual content”.

He urged Mr. Opara to pray for the security challenges in the Country and particularly for peace in Plateau State, in his words, “We solicit for your prayer that peace may reign in Plateau State”.

Speaking earlier, the Executive Secretary of NCPC, Mr. John Kennedy Opara commended the Governor for his efforts in ensuring the welfare of the citizens of the state despite the economic challenges. According to him, “I believe that it is God that brought you to lead the people of Plateau State and He will make a way for you where there seems to be no way”.

The NCPC boss informed his host that the Commission was using pilgrimage as a tool for moral and spiritual transformation.

He hinted that the Commission has introduced skill acquisition programme to its pilgrimage exercise. He explained that the skill acquisition is to empower the pilgrims to acquire skills in the area of Agriculture and Technology, in his words, “this would help to strengthen various states in the country and provide job opportunities”.

Mr. Opara also disclosed that the Commission now runs four pilgrimage programmes in one Calendar year namely: Easter Pilgrimage which holds March to April, Youth Pilgrimage, July, Family Pilgrimage, August and the General Pilgrimage which is usually held between October to December.

He called on well meaning people in the state to partner with the state government to sponsor Christians who are spiritually rich, but materially poor to the Holy Land.

The NCPC boss further disclosed that the Commission is introducing Christian pilgrimage Lottery scheme to encourage many Christians to embark on Holy Pilgrimage by paying for tickets which qualifies one to participate in the raffle draw and the lucky winners would be sponsored to Israel with all expenses paid by the Commission.

He used the opportunity to invite the Governor for “A Day with Jesus” in Israel where Christians come together in Israel to pray for the peace and Leadership of our country.
