2016 PILGRIMAGE: NCPC TO ORGANIZE 3 DAYS CONVOCATION FOR LEADERS ON MOUNT ZION, JERUSALEM

The Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), Rev. Tor Uja has said that the Commission would organize 3 day convocation for leaders on Mount Zion Jerusalem, during this year’s pilgrimage exercise. He made this known during an over sight function by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs at the NCPC headquarters, Abuja.

He informed that the leadership convocation on Mount Zion Jerusalem would bring together Nigerian Leaders across the Country and affords the opportunity to dialogue, study the present Nigeria situation and pray to God for solution and divine intervention.

He explained that the Commission runs four pilgrimages in one year to meet different needs of people, namely: Easter Pilgrimage which is in March, the Youth Pilgrimage in July, the Family Pilgrimage in August and the main October-December pilgrimage.

The NCPC boss intimated that the Commission intends to focus its pilgrimage programmes to three categories of people in the society: the Women, Leaders and Youths. According to him, “I believe that if Women are rightly exposed they would be able to strengthen the nation”. He said, “we want to give our youths the opportunity to learn from the agricultural technology in Israel”.

The No.1 Pilgrim Officer of the federation further intimated that the major goal of the Commission is to ensure that anyone who goes on pilgrimage would experience the knowledge and power of God and would also build leadership capacity that would make them discover who they are and what they can be.

He affirmed that the Commission intends to build nationalism in Nigeria pilgrims who perform pilgrimage so they could take Nigeria as their personal project and speak against the evils perpetrated in this country. In his words, “we will build leadership skills in pilgrims so that they can endure situations and look for solutions for the challenges we face as a nation”.

In her remarks, the Chairperson Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Sen. Mosurat Sunmonu commended the Commission for its laudable programmes especially for including skill acquisition to its pilgrimage programmes. According to her, “the inclusion of skill acquisition in agriculture to your pilgrimage programme would add value to pilgrims and Nigeria economy".

She informed that she and her team were in the Commission for an oversight function, to know what the Commission has been able to achieve from the budget approved to run the Commission in 2016.

She explained that the primary duty of Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs is to work and provide guidance for Parastatals under their purview.

In his remarks, the Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, Sen. Shehu Sani stressed that pilgrimage is the responsibility of the government because according to him, “it is the prayers of Pilgrims in the Holy Land that has kept Nigeria together".

He commended the Commission for its giant strides in its programmes and assured that the Committee would do everything humanly possible to assist the Commission in achieving success in its pilgrimage programmes.
